Ten persons were killed and several others injured when gunmen stormed a graduation party organized by a student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
Three former students of the institution, who were guests at the party, and a final-year medical student, Chibudum Einstein, son of former chairman of Esan West local government council were among the casualties.
A student who earlier fought with another student over a girl fired the fatal shots that sent the victims to their early graves.
The suspect was said to had angrily walked out of the party after his shirt was torn in the scuffle but returned with his friends suspected to be cult members and started shooting.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command’s spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said operatives of the command have arrested some suspects in connection with the killings, adding that it was carried out by a rival cult gang.
He, however, stated that only two persons were killed, while others sustained injuries, even as he disclosed that investigation into the incident has commenced.
“There was a report of cult-related murder by a rival cult gang. Two persons were killed and others were injured. Some persons have been arrested and the police have started investigating,” Nwabuzor said.
