Two fake Soldiers have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Sergeant Onalaja Onajide at the Ajamgbadi Police Station, Lagos.
Seargent Onajide was on Sunday, May 10, shot by gunmen while on Station guard at about 9.Pm.


A Police Source said on a fateful day at about 9.pm, the newly posted Divisional Police Officer of the station was hearing a noise in front of the station and came down from his office to know what was amiss, but when he came down none of the four-station guards were on duty and he called on one of the senior officers who joined him outside the gate.


The officer said while they were trying to find out why there was nobody on guard, Seargent Onajide appeared from the dark, having some car keys in his hand and his rifle as the DPO was trying to inquire why he left his duty post, a gunman fired a shot from the opposite direction and Onifade fell down while some pellets shattered the DPO’S phones, before the DPO and the division crime officer could get to terms with what transpired, the gunman had taken off.

The DPO was just posted from Alagbado to the area and his subordinate rushed Onajide to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak to the press said:

” The DPO ordered that we should turn the area upside down to fish out the killers of a cop. We have been able to get five persons including two fake Soldiers.Ilemba Hausa Police Station, Lagos State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Muhammed Adesina Yahaya, and his crack team


“The suspects, Sgt Kehinde Elijah, 45 and Eze Frank Joseph. The first suspect, Elijah, was frequently paying visits to the Ilemba Station without the officers and men of the station suspecting him to be fake. The suspect is a deserter. Four others are still being trailed, from the Sambisa forest, Borno State, where the Nigerian Army has been fighting Boko Haram insurgents. We are suspecting that the two fake Soldiers are linked to the shooting and dastardly killing of Online.


Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana said:” On May 16 at about 3 .00 am, detectives from Ilemba Hausa Police Station arrested Kehinde Elijah, 45, of Ibiyeye Street, Whitehouse Bus Stop, Okokomaiko. He is among the three suspects on the police wanted list for violent crimes. Four pairs of military fatigues were recovered from his house. He claimed to have deserted the military in 2015 when he was deployed to the Northeast to fight insurgency. He has been in Ojo area since then, where he has been terrorizing members of the public. The second suspect, Ezeh Frank Joseph, was arrested in his apartment at the Imude Pako area, Era road, Ajangbadi.

He claimed to have deserted the military while undergoing basic military training. They are arrested in respect of the shooting and killing of police Sergeant Onalaja Onajide attached to the Ilemba Hausa Division. The shooting incident happened on 10/5/2020, gunmen fired gunshots at the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa, and the Station Guard, Sergeant Onalaja Online.

The DPO survived the gunshots, but the Station Guard died from the pellet’s wound. The investigation led to the arrest of the two. The first suspect was earlier at the Station to solicit the release of his motorcycle which was impounded by the police for violating the ban on the use of commercial Motorcycles. Not happy with the DPOs refusal to release the motorcycle to him, he decided to launch the deadly attack. The investigation is ongoing. The suspects will soon be charged to Court.
