Two mobile policemen under the Special Protection Unit (SPU) were killed during the weekend by suspected armed robbers who ambushed their escort vehicle in Orerokpe area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the deceased officers were attached to a private businessman based in Benin City, Edo State, with business interests in the oil-rich city of Warri, Delta State.
The businessman along with his wife was said to be coming from Warri on a fateful day to Orerokpe when the bandits struck, raining bullets on the two-convoy vehicle.
While the two escort officers died on the spot, wife of the businessman sustained severe injuries and later died on Sunday morning at an undisclosed hospital.

Apart from the human casualties, the hoodlums were said to have carted away undisclosed amount of cash from the bullet-ridden vehicles, and the AK47 rifle of one of the fallen officers.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya ,said the deceased officers were visiting and not attached to the command
She said that she was yet to ascertain which Mobile Squadron they were assigned from.
The police image maker also confirmed that the wife of the Benin-based businessman died in the hospital as a result of injuries sustained during the attack. According to her, the deceased officers were assigned to the businessman who was returning from Warri on the day of the attack.
