2019 AFCON: Taifa Stars Coach Amunike wants to battle Super Eagles

Emmanuel Amunike says it will be a challenge for him and the Taifa Stars to face Nigeria at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations if Tanzania qualifies.

Tanzania have only qualified once for the AFCON and currently sit second in Group L, but with just a point more than third placed Cape Verde.

The prospect of reaching the tournament in Cameroon is a cause of excitement for the East African nation and there’s real optimism that they can pick one of two tickets in the group.

In a telephone interview on Brila FM’s Revolution Plus Sports 360 Degrees Show on Monday, the former Nigeria international said, “It will be a big challenge to play against Nigeria, but We will have to play.

“We know they have a strong team and are one of the best in Africa, but we’ll work to get a result. It’ll be a blessing to qualify and even get to play against Nigeria.

“We’re happy and remain optimistic. There’s excitement in Tanzania and we hope that collectively the team will compete against the best and rest of Africa,” said Amunike
