Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday, expressed his grave concern and doubt over the integrity, impartiality and competence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free , fair and credible election in the country.
Obasajo, who noted that democracy would become a sham if elections are carried out by partial umpires, who show no integrity, acting with blatant partiality, duplicity and imbecility, maintained that the present INEC under Mahmood Yakubu, is highly compromised and lack credibility to give Nigeria clean and clear elections.
The former president stated this at a world press conference, held at his Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta residence , warning that President Muhammad Buhari and his party ,All Progressive Alliance were planning massively to rig the up coming elections.
Reading from a 16 page address entitled :’Points for Concern and Action’, Obasanjo, alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling APC have embarked on what he termed “the president’s self- succession project”, by recruiting collation officers ahead of the February 16 presidential election who were already awarding results based on their projects to actualise the perpetuation agenda, in which the people would not matter and the votes would not count.
He said that the president’s henchmen were working round the clock in cahoots with security agents and election officials, to perfect their rigging plan by computing results right from the ward level to local government, state and national levels to allot Buhari, what would look like a landslide victory irrespective of the true situation for a candidate who might have carried out by proxy presidential debate and campaigns.
He therefore called on Nigerians to rise up against the alleged evil plans of Buhari led government . Also ,he called on the international community to wade in into Nigeria’s predicament .
