Notorious robbery kingpin Power and his assistant have met their Waterloo at the hands of the police as they were shot dead during a robbery in the Okoko area of Lagos on Tuesday. Two other gang members were arrested. The robbers had shot dead a victim and injured another before the encounter with the police. Also in police net are a cult leader and seven members of his gang. The suspected cult members were arrested by the Lagos State Task Force. It was gathered that, on Tuesday night, suspected armed robbers on four motorcycles had stormed Alhaji Gafaru Street, Imude Road and attempted to rob residents of the street, which is in the Ilemba-Hausa area of Ojo.

The police immediately deployed the Anti-robbery Squad and Metro Patrol teams to the scene. The Lagos State public relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said: “On sighting the police, the armed robbers opened fire but the police fired back and the robbers were subdued by the superior firepower of our gallant teams. Two suspects, Ibrahim and Obi, were picked while Chinozo Felix, aka Power, and Ifeanyi Uche were fatally injured. Three Beretta pistols  with three live ammunition and three expended cartridges and one unregistered Bajaj motorcycle were  recovered  from the scene.“Unfortunately, before the arrival of the police, the robbers had shot Obinna Efenkandu, who died on the spot, while Collins Ichu and Abdullah Niger received bullet wounds.

The injured persons were taken to the hospital and are receiving treatment.”In another development, operatives of the Lagos State Task Force arrested seven suspected cult members and their leader. Chairman of the agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, disclosed that enforcement operations around Mile 12 area were carried out to get rid of cultists and miscreants that have held the axis to the jugular. Egbeyemi said the agency acted on series of save-our-souls by residents of Mile 12 and environs.

He said, during the raiding, Sergeant Damilola Adeojo, attached to the agency, was attacked with cutlasses and broken bottles. The injured policeman was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where he was admitted. Egbeyemi, however, said: the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Zubairu Muazu has directed that the suspects be a charge to court.
