Five persons died yesterday in a multiple accidents involving a tanker laden with petroleum product and other vehicles in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Three others were injured in the accident involving five vehicles.

Although the identities of the casualties were not ascertained immediately, witnesses said a mother and her two children were among the casualties.

According to sources, the deceased mother and her dead children were on a motorcycle, returning from school when they were crushed by the tanker near the traffic light along Old Lagos/Asaba Road, Agbor.

The fuel-laden tanker was said to have failed to break while ascending the hill at Orogodo River and subsequently rolled back on the slope, destroying the motorcycle and other cars.

The accident attracted a mammoth crowd of sympathizers to the scene where the dismembered bodies of the victims littered the area.

The accident, led to traffic as the motorcycle got stuck with other destroyed vehicles.

The traffic later eased off following the intervention of officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who cleared the scene of the accident vehicles.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta State, Mr. Ibrahim Abubakar, said five persons died while three others were injured.
