6 church members electrocuted in Lagos

Tragedy struck Sunday morning in the premises of a Cherubim and Seraphim Church (C&S), Abule-Egba, Lagos when six of its’ members were electrocuted .
The death cause pandemonium as Church members ran from one place to the other, looking for a solution to rescue the victims but help could not come.
The victims were electrocuted while trying to change the church flag in preparation for their end-of-year anniversary.

The bodies of the six male adults have been removed and deposited at the State General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

It was gathered that the first victims were two male adults who were trying to change the church flag standing in front of the church.

It was learnt that the pole carrying the flag mistakenly touched the high-tension wire, killing the two male adults on the spot.

A resident, Tunde Babani, told our Correspondent that the other four victims also got electrocuted while trying to rescue the first two victims.

The Director of the Stats Fire Service, Mrs. Adeseye Margaret, confirmed the incident said the unfortunate incident occurred around 7 am Sunday.

She said the Agege Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a report at 07:34 am on Sunday, from El-Adonai Evegenlical Ministry, 18 Jibiwu Road, off Agbe Road, U-turn Bus Stop, Abule Egba, about a high tension connecting the C & S Church’s flag pole, which led to the electrical shock of about six male adults.

“The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company has been informed and consequently de-energize power distribution to the environment while rescue operations continue amidst youths restiveness cum tensed area”,

she added.
