A Nigerian player will soon win CAF POTY, says Makinwa

With a Nigerian player failing to win the CAF African Footballer of the Year Award which was staged last night in Senegal, as the last time a Nigerian player picked up the award was in 1999 when Nwankwo Kanu bagged it for Nigeria.

Despite the 19 year absence, former Super Eagles striker and ex-international, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa strongly believes the time for a Nigerian player to win the award will come again, as all hope is not lost.
In a chat with www.brila.net, the man nicknamed the Tiger of Lagos bemoaned Nigeria’s long absence from the awards, but also added that he believes a Nigerian player will soon win the award again very soon
“Its unfortunate we have not won the award since 1999, that’s a long time, but it doesn’t mean we cannot win it”, he commenced.
“We just have to work hard as a country, and it also depends on how you treat your players as well because I was unhappy especially with Victor Moses quitting the National team”.
“On the part of the players, they need to work hard and focus more on their club sides. Also playing very well for the national team and their clubs, that’s the only way they can get on that list and I believe they will very soon”.
