Abia North: Police quiz Ohuabunwa over alleged falsification of result

The Abia State Police Command yesterday quizzed the Senator representing Abia North, Mr. Mao Ohuabunwa over alleged electoral fraud.

His invitation was following the arrest of a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. V Ibe, who was also the Collation Officer of Arochukwu LGA of Abia state in the last Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Senator Ohuabunwa was interrogated by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Umuahia.

The arrested INEC official allegedly in connive with Ohuabunwa, who contested for Senate (Abia North) on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to illegally thump-printed ballot papers and manipulated results in favour of the PDP candidate.

The electoral fraud was perpetrated with the support of a police Inspector (name withheld and under investigation ) who was also handcuffed and arrested by the police.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a close aide to the senator, confirmed Ohuabunwa’s invitation by the police, adding that the security agency had earlier arrested a policeman and a staff of INEC in connection with the electoral fraud.

A police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak with the press, said: “The case against the senator may be transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja”.

Efforts to reach the spokesman of the police in Abia state proved abortive as his telephone lines were switched off.
