Ajayi crowned champion in Egypt, sets unprecedented record

Junior Ajayi helped Al Ahly win their fourth consecutive Premier League crown on Wednesday night at the Borg El Arabi Stadium.

Ajayi joined the Red Devils four seasons ago from CS Sfaxien and has etched his name in the history of the club.

He becomes the only Nigerian to win four straight league titles with the same team.

The forward came off the bench in the 76th minute to help his side maintain their lead against El Mokawloon; the game ended 1-3.

It was also a joyful night for Al Ahly’s Uruguayan Head Coach Martin Lasarte, who was brought in on a rescue mission.

Lasarte described picking up a 41st league crown for the club as “a very important title”.

“It is a very important title. The team went through tough moments, we deserve this trophy. Celebrate and enjoy these moments,” Lasarte told Al Ahly TV.

“We have to keep working and aspire for new titles. When I arrived the point difference with the leaders was 17 points so I think we did a good job. We had a precise goal.”

“The most important thing is having long term plans. I know how much the fans are waiting for titles,” he added.
