Akpeyi Will Miss Biggest Game of His Career Since Moving to South Africa

This Weekend Daniel Akpeyi will move a step closer to ending his endless wait for a silverware since moving to South Africa from the NPFL.

Akpeyi left Warri Wolves in 2015 and joined Chippa United in the PSL, but the goalkeeper is yet to add a silverware at club level to the FA Cup he won in Nigeria.

He has been in fine form for Ernst Middendorp’s men recently including the back to back games against Orlando Pirates in the league and cup games.

However, the 33 year-old Goalkeeper will play no part when Amakhosi face Maritzburg in the semi-finals of the Telkom Cup.

The Nigerian is suspended for the game having accumulated four yellow cards – the latest one came in the quarter-final game against Pirates.

Speaking ahead of the match, Chiefs Coach Middendorp gave an update on his Nigerian goalkeeper’s situation.

“It’s something we know – the next game against Maritzburg on the 24th of November, Daniel Akpeyi can’t play, so we have to go very clearly into it.”

The second semi-final will see Golden Arrows go up against Mamelodi Sundowns.
