Akwuegbu backs Dream Team VII to progress into semi-final of AFCON

Former Super Eagles player Benedict Akwuegbu has urged the national U-23 team to do everything humanly possible to grab a semi-final tickets at the ongoing CAF U-23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

After losing to Cote D’Ivore in their opening game, the  Olympic Eagles bounced back to reconning with a 3-1 win over Zambia in their second game on Tuesday.

The Amapakabo’s charges will on Friday lock horns with the group leaders, South Africa, in the last match of the group at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo.

Winners of the match will ultimately top the group and book a place in the semi finals.

However, Akwuegbu believes that the Olympic Eagles are now back in full confidence and are likely to earn a semifinal berth.

“Yes, victory over Zambia is the turning point. They have their fate in their hands now. The confidence is back up and I believe they cannot let it slip again,” he said.

Meanwhile, the four teams in the Group B can still make it to the next round of the Championship.

South Africa are leading with four points, while Nigeria and Cote D’Ivore occupied third and fourth position respectively.

Zambia are rocked at the base of the Group with just a point.
