APC primary: Pray for Ambode, Ikuforiji

APC primary: Pray for Ambode, Ikuforiji

former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has made a passionate appealed to  Epe indigenes to pray for Ambode’s successful bid to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket at the governorship direct primary scheduled for September 29.

Ikuforiji made the appeal at the grand finale of Kayokayo Festival in Epe, on Saturday night.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the state’s Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making the body of APC in Lagos, met on Saturday night, where it resolved that the chapter must hold its primary; to determine its governorship candidate.

The 22-man council members met in Tinubu’s Bourdillon residence, Ikoyi, Lagos, and ratified the decision. The group had earlier met last Tuesday/Wednesday, at the same venue.

The GAC is the state’s highest advisory political body, headed by the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Among his challengers are former commissioner for Training and Establishment,  a former commissioner for Training and Establishment, Jide Sanwo-Olu, believed to be backed by the Mandate Group, loyal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is also APC national leader as well as being a former governor of the state, and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who is also a former commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.

A  source close to the 22-member GAC meeting held at Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence told NAN that the party insisted that Ambode must go through the primary, with others.

“We met and deliberated extensively on the governor’s second term bid and our forthcoming primary. After the deliberations, we resolved that the party should hold the primary to pick its candidate because that is just the right thing to do.

Among those who attended the meeting were Senator Anthony Adefuye, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, Ikuforiji, and Chief Abayomi Finnih.

Finnih is scheduled to address the media, today, on the outcome of GAC’s weekend meeting.

Regardless, Ikuforiji has urged Epe people to be calm and support the governor in prayers, for him to be successful in his re-election bid.

He said prayer became necessary because of the “speculations” that Sanwo-Olu has been tipped to succeed Ambode as the next governor on APC platform in 2019.

Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of Epe Local Government, Adedoyin Adesanya, stressed the need for peaceful coexistence and be focused.

He said the people of Epe should live in peace and harmony for the progress of the community.
