Armed Forces Remembrance: Chukwunwike Solicits support for ex-servicemen

The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike has solicited support and cooperation for the fallen heroes of the armed forces, stressing that the corporate existence of Nigeria is a collective responsibility.

He spoke on Saturday during the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at Ogwashi-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha South.

The council boss in his address which was made available to newsmen said the efforts of servicemen cannot be quantified in any form.

He said: “As you all know, the protection and maintenance of the territorial integrity of a nation depend very much on the quality of her Armed Forces.

“In the course of pursuing World Peace and the struggle for the defence and maintenance of the territorial integrity of our nation, Nigeria, many of our soldiers made various sacrifices. Some lost their lives and yet some others were maimed for life.

“Nigerian Soldiers were involved in the First World War 1914-1928, Second World War 1939-1945, the Nigerian Civil War 1967-1970, and the various Peace Keeping Operations under United Nations, Liberia, Sierra Leone and in the Dafur region of Sudan and recently, the Guerrilla Warfare/Boko Haram terrorist attacks on innocent Nigerians.

“I salute the courage and patriotism of the Nigerian soldiers all these years. Permit me to place on record that the efforts of Nigerian Soldiers over these years brought about the relative peace, order, and stability which the Nigeria nation enjoys today, in spite of the Boko Haram terrorist war that had gone on in the Northern part of our nation Nigeria in the last six years.

“In this junction, l wish to solicit the support and co-operation of all Nigerians to rededicate ourselves to the preservation of the geographical entity called Nigeria; particularly in these trying times. We should all be ready or prepared to make sacrifices just like the soldiers did to further ensure the harmonious and corperate existence of Nigeria our country”,

Chukwunwike added.
