Athletics coach Lee Evans berates Team Nigeria’s 2020 Olympics preparation

Former Nigerian athletics coach and winner of two Olympic gold medals, American Lee Edward Evans, has decried the poor way and manner Nigeria as a country prepare for major events ahead of the next Olympics in Tokyo next year, 2020.

The last Olympic games in Rio, Brazil, saw Nigeria pick up just one bronze medal in the football event and no single medal in track and field where the country was expected to win several.

Speaking with www.brila.net, Evans also hinted that the only prospect that can probably give Nigeria a medal remains Blessing Okhagbare Iguotegunour.

“Nigerians like to talk, but don’t get things done…..Basically, am disappointed in the way Nigeria prepares.

“They know what needs to be done, but they don’t do nothing, Nigeria has the potential to be number 2 in the world behind the USA, but as I said, they not ready yet, they just not ready”.

Lee Evans, a two-time Olympic gold medallist, set a world record in the 400-meters at the 1968 games that stood for over 20 years.

He was also a member of the 4×400-meter relay team that set a world record in winning the gold medal in Mexico City.
