Ginette Mfutila Makiese scored 21 points in the first quarter to lead First Bank Basketball Club of Nigeria to a 95-71 victory over Kenya’s Ports Authority (KPA) at the FIBA AWCC in Maputo, Mozambique.
The Nigerian Champions outclassed their opponents in the first quarter with 35-4 points, but the Kenya Port Authority improved and won the second quarter 16-25.
First Bank regained the advantage, winning third quarter 19-16 before the Kenyans won the fourth quarter with 26-25.
Nkechi Akashile scored 17 points, while Malaika Nyree Green registered 14 points to her name, Nkem Akaraiwe also notched 12 points and Jasmine Nwajei also got double figures of 10 points to lead the Nigerian champions to the top of Group B.
Jamila Nansikombi was the star performer for the Kenyans as she scored 27 points and was her team only player that hit double figures.
