AWCON 2018: S/Africa coach Ellis wants Bayana Bayana to beat Falcons again

South Africa female coach Desiree Ellis has expressed delight following her team’s qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France next year.

The Bayana Bayana by virtue of making the finals of the ongoing African Women’s Championship in Ghana picked one of the three slots available to Africa at the 2019 tournament.

South Africa beat Mali 2-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium to seal the historic qualification and also set up a final date with Nigeria on Saturday at the Accra Stadium.

“I know we can pull a double over Nigeria, they are the champions but we will try our best again for a victory on Saturday.

“We knew that we had accomplished what we wanted to do and that’s going to the World Cup,” Ellis said at the post-match press conference.

“This is not about this team only. This is about all of South Africa. This is about all the coaches there before. About all the players who have been there before. It is also about the Football Association.

“We wouldn’t have been anywhere if they weren’t on board. They have been tremendous in the preparations we have had over a year.

“They made sure we made the best preparations possible.”
