Baba Ganaru: Akwa United win will strike fear into the heart of our opponents

El Kanemi Warriors technical adviser Mohammed Baba Ganaru his side’s away victory over Akwa United in NPFL Group A fixture on Sunday will motivate his boys to go all out for a win at any ground.

The Desert Warriors’ Ba’akaka Azikoro scored the only goal of the game at Godswill Akpabio stadium to stun Rafael Everton’s team who are one of the favourites to be crowned champions at the end of the season.

However, Baba Ganaru said the win is a what his team needed to put them on the right path in the new season, while also revealing that the tactics adopted by his side worked perfectly.

“First of all, I thank God for the win. Akwa United is a team that always plays passing game. So we came to Uyo with a game plan.

They love to create space but we denied them by always putting more players behind. We used counterattack to beat them to their tactics which worked for us at the end of the day,”

“Towards the tail of the game, Akwa United were under pressure and they came out forcefully but they lost balance in the defense. That was how we got them on the counter-attack. And we got our goal.

The goal means so much to me. In any competition, the first game is very important. It gives motivation and sends signal to our opponents.

The boys did very well despite the fact that we were not very active in the pre-season. I am very happy with my boys display today.” He said after the game.
