Balogun’s limited Brighton role won’t affect the Eagles – Sofoluwe

Former Nigeria international Yisa Sofoluwe has backed Leon Balogun to put his frustration for lack of playing time at his Club behind him and deliver good performance for the Super Eagles as they take on Bafana Bafana on Saturday.

Leon Balogun has only made two appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion this season since his arrival from Mainz 05 of Germany on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old is undisputed partner of William Troost-Ekong at the heart of National team’s defense since Gernot Rohr took over the team.

However, Sofoluwe urges the reliable defender not to think about Coach Chris Hughton’s decision to starve him of action at the premier league club, as he believes his performance for the Super Eagles will not be affected.

“It doesn’t matter I believe Leon is a good player for the fact that he has not been playing regularly in his club cannot affect his performance for the Super Eagles at least he trains with the rest of the team.

“At least he is not injured, so not playing often for his club does not mean he will not be able to play well against South Africa.

“The coach knows his ability that is why he has invited him. He is a player we know very well, he is not a new player in the team.

“If the coach knows he cannot play he will not invite him. So the coach knows he is still a good player. The person you know is better that untested players you don’t know at all.”
