Tragedy struck Tuesday evening when a 34-year-old man who operates a barbing shop at Umugakwo bus stop drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel ( name withheld )owned by a popular politician located at Toronto Junction, Umuoba Uratta in Owerri North council of the state.
Daily Sun reliably learned that the deceased who was identified as Uche had gone with two ladies to the hotel which is close to his shop for some relaxation
It was further learned that the deceased having drunk about six bottles of beer beverage with his lady friends had decided to a swim.
Our reporter gathered that while the deceased jumped into the swimming pool his lady friends had continued with their drinks and never checked on him nor the hotel staff.
According to a source who did not want to be named said it was when two ladies had come to inform uche that they are leaving that as he had taken over thirty minutes that the discovered that deceased was motionless.
” It was when the two ladies who had come with the deceased when they came to inform him that they wanted to leave as he had taken more than thirty minutes swimming and as they came close to the swimming one of the ladies discovered that he was lying motionless and raised the alarm which had attracted the attention of the hotel staff.
He blamed the unfortunate incident on the negligence of the hotel management who did not have a lifeguard whose responsibility should be to safeguard intending swimmers and prevent this type of unfortunate incident where a man who is obviously drunk and may not have known how to swim unguarded”.
He lamented.
Confirming the incident, a senior police officer at Uratta Police Division told our Reporter that one of the managers of Hotel reported the matter to the police.
“When we received the information, our men went to the scene of the crime and recovered the body of the said man. No traces of injuries were found and no identification nor phone was recovered from him.
“The Two Ladies that he came with disappeared immediately with all means of identification of the deceased, including his phone apparently for fear of arrest.
“The corpse has since been recovered and deposited at a morgue while the investigation continues.”
