Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has hinted that he could rest Lionel Messi for Tuesday night’s LaLiga clash at Celta Vigo.
There have been reports that Messi, who will be facing Nigeria with Argentina at the World Cup in June, would be rested periodically by Barcelona due to the forward’s desire to be ready for Russia 2018.
With Barca facing Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final at the weekend, Valverde has acknowledged that Messi could be given the night off for the trip to Balaidos.
“Resting Messi is a possibility like any other, but I think he is playing well, the other day he played a good game,” Valverde said during a press conference on Monday.
“We will make changes to the team in Vigo, I think it’s an important week and that the team needs the rest.”
Messi has scored 29 goals in 31 LaLiga games for leaders Barcelona this season, 44 games and 39 goals in all competitions.
