Bora Milutonovic was a Massive Mistake for the Super Eagles – Amokachi

One apparent mistake made in by the Nigeria Football Federation was hiring Velibor “Bora” Milutonovic as Coach of the Super Eagles to the 1998 World Cup according to former Nigeria striker Daniel Amokachi.

Making its second world cup appearance, Nigeria stunned the tournament with a 3-2 comeback win over Spain in the group stage.

The Eagles secured passage to the second round following a routine win over Bulgaria, courtesy a solitary Victor Ikpeba strike.

However, the team lost its final group game to Paraguay but still booked a spot in the round of 16 for a second consecutive edition.

But, a 4-1 trouncing by Denmark saw Nigeria eliminated and Bora’s selection and Man management style should be questioned Amokachi suggested.

‘Yekini was on the bench, I was on the bench for the most part of the campaign and I think that decision was questionable,’ the former striker said.

Amokachi made the comments on the Bull’s Pit show on Brila FM recently, in reaction to the challenges the Eagles faced in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

‘ In my opinion, he (Bora) should never have been our Coach.’
