CAA 2018: Team Nigeria’s Third Place Finish an Overachievement

Former Nigeria and African 100m champion, Deji Aliu has described Nigeria’s third place finish on the overall medal standing at the just concluded Senior African Athletic Championship as commendable considering the “unpleasant” preparation of the athletes.

Nigeria could not better their performance from two years ago in Durban, where the team finished third. As Hosts this year, Team Nigeria finished with nine Gold, five Silver and five Bronze.

Aliu told Cornerstonenewsng.comthat the performance by Team Nigeria clearly shows the team had the potential to do even better.

After the five days of grueling competition, Kenya emerged overall winners with a total of 11 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze followed by South Africa with 9 Gold, 13 Silver and 8 Bronze.

The next edition of the biennial championship will be taking place in Algeria.
