Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby says he hopes one of Fransica Ordega and Asisat Oshoala can be crowned the African Women’s player of the year following their selection into final 3 nominated for the 2018 award.
The award is to celebrate top performers on the continent in a calendar year , this year’s ceremony is scheduled for 9th 2019 of January in Dakar, Senegal.
While reacting to the nomination of Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega who are up against Thembi Kgatiana of South Africa for the top prize, Dennerby said any of the duo is good enough to win the award.
“I must say this, the players are very fantastic and hard-working. They contributed immensely towards winning the AFWON in Ghana . I pray they should sustain their current form towards FIFA Women’s World Cup bill for June in France. Nigeria have been dominating the women’s award and they will continue because Nigeria players are experience and expose internationally more than female players in other parts of Africa”. Said Dennerby
Fransica Ordega was vital to Nigeria winning the 11th African Women’s Cup of Nations, winning multiple Woman of match award , Asisat Oshoala on her part was part of the winning team and won Chinese league title to cap a memorable year, while Thembi Kgatiana of South Africa helped her country to reach the final of African Women’s Cup of Nations where she finished as top scorer and lead Desire Elli‘s side to the World Cup for the first time.
