CAF to screen 32 referees for 2018 AWCON in Ghana

Thirty-two (32) referees and assistant referees are set to undergo a preparatory course to step up their readiness for the Upcoming Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018.

The course is arranged for 17-21 October 2018 in the city of Cape Coast in Ghana, the City is one of the venues, alongside Accra to host the 11th edition of the competition, which is slated for 17 November to 1 December 2018.

 

The selected match officials, consist of 16 referees and 16 assistant referees from 25 Member Associations will go through medical screening, theoretical and physical drills as they fight for a place in the final list for the final competition.

 

For the theory aspect, critical topics like tactical and technical analysis of the game, video review of matches and also a special session on integrity and match manipulation will be discussed.

 

“The course is the key step towards preparations for the final tournament. It provides the platform to assess and evaluate the match officials, and to select the best and well-conditioned ones for the Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2018, also the continental qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019,” CAF Refereeing Manager, Eddy Maillet disclosed.

 

The five-day training exercise will be supervised by highly experienced CAF Instructors Lim Kee Chong (Mauritius), Hadqa Yahya (Morocco), Lawson Hogban Latre-Kayi (Togo), Mademba Mbacke (Senegal) and Marwa Hannachi (Tunisia).

 

Meanwhile, the draw for the tournament proper will hold on Sunday, 21 October 2018 in Accra. The eight qualified teams are Ghana (host), Algeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, South Africa, and Nigeria.

 

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are the most successful team in the history of the tournament, with the Thomas Dennerby’s side winning the tournament on ten separate occasions.
