CAFCC: Akwa United Coach Maikaba Expects Tough Al Hilal Test

Akwa United head coach Abdu Maikaba expects a tough battle against their hosts Al Hilal of Sudan in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup play-off round, first leg fixture, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Promise Keepers who are making their second appearance in the competition are looking to make it to the group stages this time around after failing to make it beyond the preliminary round two years ago.

“We have prepared very well for this match, our opponents are a good team and we know it’s not going to be an easy game,” Maikaba told Akwa United’s official website.

“I know this team from my time with Enyimba when I was the assistant coach there. We beat them in a Champions League game then.

“We have committed professional players that can deliver at any time. We all know the importance of this game to us as a football club and to our country. That is the reason we want to ensure we get a positive result here in Sudan on Sunday.

“Although the playoff is a two-legged affair, we want to gain all the advantages we can get that will help put us in pole position for the next round.

“There is no doubt that Al Hilal will have massive fans support but they can’t intimidate us with that. Football is a game of eleven players against eleven players and we are here to make our country proud.”

Sunday’s game is slated for the Al Hilal Stadium from 8pm Nigerian time.

The winners of the tie will advance to the lucrative group stage of the competition.
