Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi featured but could not help Tianjin Teda avoid a 2-1 away defeat to Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Sunday.
Prior to the international break, Mikel bagged a double assist in Tianjin Teda’s 3-2 home win against Tianjin Quanjian.
After both teams failed to break the deadlock for most of the game, Jiangsu Suning eventually found the breakthrough when Richmond Boakye scored on 75 minutes.
In the 77th minute, Jiangsu Suning doubled their lead thanks to Alex Teixeira.
With nine minutes remaining, Johnathan pulled a goal back for Tianjin Teda which was only a consolation.
Tianjin Teda have now lost two games with one win and one draw in the new campaign.
They are now ninth on four points in the 16-team CSL table.
