Colombia, Poland win, Senegal out on fair play

Yerry Mina was Colombia’s hero as a second-half goal secured a 1-0 win over Senegal to see La Tricolor finish top of Group H and qualify for the knockout stages.

The Barcelona defender rose highest to head home a cross from the right and set up a last 16 tie against England or Belgium next week.

The referee had earlier overturned his original decision to award a penalty to Senegal after consulting the video assistant referee [VAR] system in the 17th minute.

Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez, who top-scored at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with six goals, was substituted soon after the half-hour mark with an apparent injury.

But there was heartbreak for Senegal as they exited due to having more yellow cards than Japan, who were beaten 1-0 by Poland.
