Coronavirus: Mikel Obi supports Jos residents with food items

Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has distributed food items including rice, noodles, and beans to families in Jos, Plateau State.

Plateau is one of the states in Nigeria that is affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the government’s restriction is widely reported to be affecting people’s livelihoods.

Mikel who will be sharing food items for the second time during this period, took to social media to announce the donation.

“Together we can all help. Today in Jos. Where I grew up,” reads a post on his Instagram page with pictures of the items and a banner of Mikel wearing a Nigerian jersey.

The 33-year-old led Nigeria to the 2013 Afcon title in South Africa and announced his retirement from international football last year.

He became a free agent in March after terminating his contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor due to comments made over Covid-19.
