Coronavirus: NBA Suspends League Season After Player Tests Positive for the Virus

The 2019/20 NBA season will go on hiatus the League announced on Thursday following revelations one player has tested positive for COVID-19.

Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive for Coronavirus, leading to the scheduled Utah Jazz vs OKC Thunder game to be cancelled.

 

According to reports it is understood that another player on the Utah Jazz roster, Congolese star Emmanuel Mudiay may be a subject to confinement for the virus.

 

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) upgraded the Coronavirus to pandemic levels owing to its spread and number of casualties.

 

After the NBA’s statement to suspend the rest of the season, Lakers Star LeBron James tweeted:

Man we cancelling sporting events, school, office work, etc etc. What we really need to cancel is 2020! . Damn it’s been a rough 3 months. God bless and stay safe

 

Several Sporting activities across the US have been called off or will be played behind closed doors.

 

In its statement the NBA said it “will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

 

The same measures have been taken across Europe with the UEFA Champions League, and more FAs are looking at adopting the same approach or outright cancelling their league seasons.
