Members of Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) have joined other Nigerians to condole with former Inspector General of Police and current Chairman, Police Service Commission; Alhaji Musiliu Smith whose wife passed on, last Friday.

Mrs. Ariat Smith died at the age of 69.

In a press release jointly signed by the President and Secretary of CRAN, Mr. Odita Sunday, and Mrs. Chiemelie Ezeobi respectively, the association expressed shock at Mrs. Smith’s demise.

Noting that it was a sad event, they further described her demise as a great loss not only to the Smith family but to the entire country.

The journalists however submitted that “since the power of life and death resides with the Almighty God, we take solace in the belief that she left at God’s appointed time for her”.

They added that “we share in Alhaji Smith’s pain as he mourns this great loss. We are however consoled by the fact that she led a good life as could be attested to by many years of a peaceful married life and successful public service career her husband enjoyed while serving the Nigeria Police Force where he meritoriously rose to become the Inspector General of Police.

“We pray Almighty God to grant her soul eternal rest and give Alhaji Smith’s entire family the fortitude to bear the loss.”

The late Mrs. Ariat Smith who died last Friday was buried on Saturday according to Islamic rites.
