The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), a body of journalists covering the security beat nationwide, Wednesday, donated food items and other materials to the old people’s home at Sabo, Yaba area of Lagos.
CRAN president Mr. Odita Sunday said the gesture was part of corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that would give happiness to the senior citizens and blessings to the donor.
According to Odita, “It is expedient to add positively to the efforts being made by our able Association towards assisting the senior citizens, hence the reason for contributing our token to the wellbeing of our aged citizens.
“Old people in the society face myriad of problems including hunger; health problems, lack of financial succor to keep body and soul together and lack of decent accommodation to complete neglect by the state. But CRAN has taken the challenge to give the aged a better deal by donating a brand new tabletop refrigerator, toiletries, a 50kg bag of foreign parboiled rice, Two bags of semolina, Two bags of wheat, Two cartons of cabin biscuits, Two packs of three crowns tin milk, One bucket of Checkers custard, Two 2kg of Sunlight detergent, five packs of bottled water, One carton of cornflakes and one, carton Dangote macaroni.
“Other items included: three packs of toilet rolls, One bottle of 4.5litres of Sunola oil, four rolls of bathing soaps, Two fabrics of 6yards of Ankara, 10 ( crates of eggs, two cartons of income noodles among others, to the home. Giving back to the elderly should be the best way of living as we all pray to live and grow old
The home’s social welfare Officer, Mr. Jide, while receiving the materials, thanked CRAN for the visit.
“I sincerely appreciate all who supported this visit, both in gifts and cash, our greatest achievement is that the caregivers are happy to received and felt that sense of belonging.
“You must carry love along, show it and let it be seen in you because it generates peace, harmony in the family and society at large”
For years, CRAN has been reaching out to the less privileged. Last year before the dawn of the Covid-19 pandemic and during the lockdown, and the previous year, the Association had donated some food items to some orphanages, including St Monica Orphanage at Toyin area, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun State.
