CSED COMPLETE “5,000 CHALLENGE

The Trustees of CSED (Community Sport and Education Development) Initiative recently complied with one of the basic tenets of most religions of the world: “reach out to those in need near you.” This happened recently at the IDPs Camp Uhogua (Edo State), as part of the closing ceremony of the netball seminar that was recently held in Benin City.

This event was during CSED National Coordinator, Edema Fuludu addressing some of the Management staff of the IDPs Camp Uhogua. Present on this occasion were INF Instructor, Mary Waya and the P.E. practitioners that attended the netball seminar. The food items include ten bags of 50kg rice, cooking oil, two cartons of fish, tomatoes and other vegetable stew making condiments.

These food items were presented to the Management of the IDPs Camp Uhogua. CSED wanted the last day (6 March 2020) of the netball seminar to be a memorable one for the residents and staff of the IDPs Camp Uhogua. As a result, CSED, Trustees provided free lunch to about five thousand residents of the Camp.

This unexpected move by CSED caught the Management of the Camp by surprise. As they thanked Edema Fuludu, the Trustees of CSED, Mary Waya and the newly certified netball coaches for their presence in their Camp and for the kind gesture of CSED.

The Management of the IDPs Camp Uhogua acknowledged that apart from the free lunch that was bankrolled by CSED, they now have three members of staff who have been certified to coach netball, a brand new netball court and more importantly, one of their young residents (Bertha Omigie) is now certified to teach netball to her peers and other primary and secondary school students in Nigeria.

Edema Fuludu stated that apart from bringing people together, sports, when used properly, can be a force for good in mobilizing the youths, positively influencing and empowering both the able-bodied persons, physically challenged persons, as well as the hard to reach members of the society. “This is the reason why CSED will continue to support and provide girls and women with more access to our free P.E. practitioners seminars, our life skills training and PSHE (Physical Social, Health and Emotional) education programs in selected schools in Nigeria.”

Given the positive feedback and suggestions that have been received from the newly certified netball coaches, the Trustees of CSED have already initiated contact with one or two NGO’s and corporate organizations to seek for their support in helping to meet some of the burden of providing the basic daily food needs of the residents of IDP Camp in Uhogua.

It is hoped that these plans if successful would not only complement the efforts of the state government and Management of the Camp, but it would leave a positive impression in the hearts and minds of the children/youths of the IDPs Camp Uhogua. At the moment, residents of the IDPs Camp Uhogua are currently in need of urgent food and medication supply.
