Decomposing body of a lady found in a hotel room in Ebonyiund in a hotel room located along Afikpo Road in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
The deceased whose identity has not been ascertained as at press time was discovered when a customer to the facility, Mr Sylvester, perceived the stench from his room and drew the attention of the hotel staffers.
A staff in the hotel told Cornerstone News that the woman came in company with a man and a baby, ” we thought they were family members. I have not been on duty since, so I don’t know what really transpired that our management did not discover the body of the woman until a customer came and raised the alarm “.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Loveth Odah, said that the deceased was stabbed in different parts of her body. She said that the manager of the hotel had reported the matter to the police which in turn swung into action to unravel the mystery behind the death.
She also confirmed that the suspects, husband and, wife, have been arrested and would soon be charged to court after police, investigation.
Odah said: “The manager of Crown Garden Hotel, Afikpo Road, Abakaliki, went to Central Police Station and reported that in one of the rooms, they found a dead body of a lady; a female guest already decomposing. So, the police as usual mobilised and went to the scene.
“On reaching the scene, they saw already decayed body of a woman that was stabbed severally with a sharp object on her body. She was lying in the decomposed pool of her blood on top of the bed. A little baby cloths and diaper were found on top of the bed.
“Her body has been deposited at FETHA 2 mortuary for preservation and investigation has commenced”, she said.
She said that the outcome of preliminary investigations so far indicated that the suspects got their victims from Abia and Enugu States while Ebonyi served them as hide-out for crime perpetration.
She said that a pregnant woman who was recently stabbed, stripped and dumped in the pool of her blood in a farmland behind Girls’ High School, Azuiyiokwu in Abakaliki was also killed by the suspects.
“When that pregnant woman started talking, she said that she knew the name of the person who wanted to kill her as Papa Emma. He took her to a particular place that looks like a motherless – babies home before taking her to Abakaliki where he stabbed her, collected her little baby, and ran away.
“So, when this same thing happened again, intelligence-led investigation tried to link them together. The men of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID )Abakaliki actually arrested a man who confessed to have been the one who committed the two offences.
“He confessed that the dead woman that was found in the hotel was having a baby and he collected the baby and killed her. Maybe she tried to prevent him from taking her baby.
“These victims were not indigenes of Ebonyi; they were being brought in from Enugu and Abia States. The culprits were coming from that far but we were able to get him and his wife arrested”, she narrated.
