Super Eagles Captain has urged his teammates to take the criticisms levelled against them in good fate, following their 2-0 defeat to lowly rated Madagascar on Sunday.
The Super Eagles lost their 13 games unbeaten record in African Cup of Nations since 2013 after the 2-0 defeat in Alexandria on Sunday.
Mikel who returned to the line up after missing the victory over Guinea, endured a difficult time on the pitch, along with his teammates, as they were exposed by the pacy and silky Malagasy side .
However Mikel admitted , the team hasn’t hit a top gear and he hope the criticisms levelled against them, can help them improve before next game.
“Obviously, the criticism will come from our people that we love. But this is football, you are going to get criticised. We have to take the criticism and improve,” Mikel said.
“We didn’t play well and I think that in the tournament so far we haven’t really found our way to play,” he added.
Looking ahead of the team’s round of 16, Mikel who earned his 89th cap last Sunday, said the loss to Madagascar came at the right time and expected a positive reactions from the team.
“But we’ve won two games and lost one now. It’s better this happened now than in the knockout stages. Now we know as a team we have to improve, we have to do better.” He concluded.
Eagles finished second in Group B and are likely to face familiar foes, Ghana or Cameroon in the next phase.
