D’Tigress forward Evelyn Akhator has stated that Nigeria has shown the rest of Africa her intention to mount a successful title defence after the Nigerian side’s crushing win over Tunisia 75-25 in the team’s group opening match.
Akhator speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the win was very important for the team and one they needed to make a statement and send a strong signal to the rest of Africa on D’Tigress’s resolve to defend their title. She added that they will keep working to get better as a team.
“I’m very happy that we set a good tone in the first game and we have just sent a message to other teams in the competition that we are not here to joke. We’re not here to negotiate, we are here to win the champions title again. We setting the tone early is good and defensively we did a better job than Tunisia.”
