 Early morning fire kills 3 dies in Kano

Early morning fire at a flat at Gayawa Tsohowa, in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano state, has killed three persons. Kano State Fire Service confirmed the death of the three victims.

Mr Saidu Mohammed, the spokesman for the service, said that the victims included a two-year-old baby girl. “We received a distress call in the early hours of Wednesday from Malam Mudassir Abdullahi at about 3.57 am that there was a fire outbreak at a dwelling house.

“Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched a fire engine to the scene at about 4.08 am to bring the fire under control,’’ he said. He gave the names of the victims as Malam Aminu Bala, 50, Rukkaiya Aminu, 30, and Aisha Aminu, 2. Mohammed, however, said that the remains of the victims were taken to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where doctors confirmed them dead.

Mohammed said that the investigation had commenced determining the cause of the incident. Police nab Army officer with 168 bundles of hemp The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested an Army officer for allegedly dealing in drugs. The suspected Army drug dealer was arrested alongside four others with 168 bundles of wrapped Indian hemp.

The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police CP Bala Zama, said the suspect, Corporal Muzambilu Abdullahi, was arrested in possession of 106 blocks of Indian hemp on September 17 along Ringim axis after he was involved in an accident. He said:

“After receiving a report of an accident, our men of Operation Puff Adder found a Toyota Camry stashed with Indian hemp and an Army officer who was in the vehicle. “The suspect, however, in the course of interrogation, confessed that he was only invited to escort Alhaji Abubakar, who is a fugitive, from Lokoja, Kogi State to Maigatari in Jigawa State but denied knowledge of what they were transporting.”

Abdullahi 30, was involved in the war against Boko Haram insurgents but absconded from service seven months ago. The commissioner added that the police have also arrested Muhammad and Ahmed, who confessed to being drug dealers in Gumel Local Government Area of the state and were in search of the number plate of the accident vehicle.

Similarly, Zama said that in Sankara village of Ringim Local Government Area of the state, Sabo, 35, was arrested with four blocks of Indian hemp and he confessed that he bought it from Abdussalam. In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that Rabiu allegedly stole the Indian hemp from the accident scene
