Efe Ambrose reveals reason for Derby County switch

Former Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose has explained why he decided to complete a move to Championship side Derby County from being a free agent till the end of the season.

The 30-year-old defender left Hibernian in January on a mutual agreement to put an end to his two-year stay with the Hibs.

Ambrose made 59 league appearances with the Easter Road outfit before his departure, winning the 2017 Scottish Championship trophy.

The former Celtic player has been on trial with the Rams before sealing a short-term deal and he is looking to help Frank Lampard’s men secure promotion to the Premier League.

The former Hibernian of Scotland player, however, revealed in a chat with ww.Cornerstonenewsng.comthat he is working to get to full fitness and help his side do well this season, even as he explained why he decided to join the championship side

“The championship is another football on its own, if you are not fit enough, you cannot give your best because they run for 90 minutes on the pitch so it’s very competitive.

“So many people thought, why did I go to the Championship? But the only thing I can say is that in life, God’s plan for you is the best”.

I just prayed about everything and thought much about it, spoke with my family as well as my agent and said okay, there’s nothing more to do but to come to the Championship and get myself playing and for people to know that Efe Ambrose is still playing again, he concluded.

Derby are a place adrift of the promotion playoff spot after gathering 51 points from 31 games.

Ambrose could make his debut for Derby when they take on Sheffield Wednesday this weekend in the Championship.
