The Ogun State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect , Lucky Emmanuel , described by the police as notorious while he and his gang members were robbing motorists on the popular long bridge, near Berger on Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway.
The bandits used to position themselves under the bridge, only to strike when a vehicle breaks down within the axis. Emmanuel’s gang was caught in the act of robbing a motorists and his passengers by policemen on patrol from the Ogun State police Command .
A police source said : ” While they were busy ransacking the passengers, with the aim of dispossessing them of their valuables, policemen from Warewa Police Division in Ogun State,appeared and gave the gang a hot chase .While Emmanuel was arrested ,others escaped.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a press release said : “On sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased by the policemen, the aftermath of which was the arrest of one of them, Lucky Emmanuel, while the remaining three escaped”.
Oyeyemi stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect and the locally fabricated double barrel pistol with two live revolver ammunition recovered from him be transferred to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squard (FSARS), Abeokuta, for discreet investigation. The CP also ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.
“The CP also appealed to members of the public to make adequate use of the control room number whenever they are in any form of distress. The numbers are; 08081770416 and 08081770419”, the statement added.
