Chelsea defender Fikayo is still eligible to play for Nigeria, after he was overlooked by the England manager Gareth Southgate in their two Euro 2020 qualifiers games with Czech Republic and Bulgaria respectively.
The player and his Chelsea teammate Tammy Abraham were approached by the Nigerian FA on a possibility of switching allegiance to the West Africans , but the duo declined the offer and went on to honour invitation from England, the country that contributed emmersely to their development.
While Abraham was handed his first competitive appearance in England’s 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic in Prague last Thursday, Tomori was an unused substitute on the night .
The Calgary-born native again was left on the bench for the entirety of England’s win over Bulgaria on Monday night as Mason Mount, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson came off the bench as the manager ran the maximum changes.
After the struggle of Michael Keane in Prague, Southgate opted to pair Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings with ever present Harry Maguire in the heart of the defense.
England went on to score on six occasions and kept a clean sheet , with Mings emerging as player of the match.
This means that Tomori is well behind the trio of Tyrone Mings, Harry Maguire and Michael Keane in Southgate’s pecking order of central defenders for the Three Lions.
However the Canadian born player is still eligible to play for Nigeria.
