Ex D’Tigers captain Oyedeji berates NBBF over neglect of domestic league

Former captain of the Nigeria Basketball national team Olumide Oyedeji has berated the NBBF in communication with FIBA over what he sees as negligence of the Nigeria Basketball league.

Oyedeji speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the Nigerian players are the main people that suffer the most, followed by coaches, technical officials and the fans.
He said Nigerian players as a result of inactivity will have no justification to even be considered for national team assignments after having been out of action for long.
“It’s very disheartening, they’re telling you that it’s a crime to be a Nigerian that plays at home, they are telling you there is no future for any Nigerian basketball player playing at home and probably they are just concerned about themselves.
Everybody has been asking me the question when is the league going to start because even the league that we started, they use Government officials to threaten the sponsor which comes mostly at the detriment of all connected to the game which deprived them of earnings.”
The NBBF in communication with FIBA now have the world cup in China to plan for, as well as the Afro challenge for men and women, the All Africa games and Olympic qualifiers which puts into serious doubts what the league season would look like again at this stage in the year.
