Nigerian Veteran Table Tennis star Funke Oshonaike has revealed she has battled depression for many years and is currently medical help.
Oshonaike who holds the record for the most Olympic Games appearance by a Nigerian female Athlete told www.brila.net, that she’d have to keep up appearances to hide any evidence of the mental illness.
‘I’ve been going through depression in my life but people don’t know this. They see me smile and play table tennis, but people can’t tell what am going through,’ the multiple African Games medal winner revealed.
In spite of her age and scrutiny over her competitiveness, the 44 year-old has set the goal of becoming the first Nigerian Female Athlete to make seven Olympic appearances at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
‘The qualifiers aren’t until February, but no specific date has been picked. I really want to go as a personal goal of mine especially with what am passing through,’ she stressed.
