Ezenwa helps Enyimba, FC Ifeanyi Ubah raise over $200k from World Cup participation

Enyimba and FC Ifeanyi Ubah will split the proceeds from the FIFA Club Benefits Programme based on Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa’s participation in the FIFA 2018 World Cup.

According to FIFA, clubs with registered players at the summer world cup are entitled to proceeds from the tournament.

A club is eligible, particularly, if the said player withing the two years prior to tournament, was a registered player.

Thus, in the case of Ezenwa, who was a registered FC IfeanyiUbah player between 2016-17 but moved the following season – 2017/18 – to Enyimba, both NPFL teams will split the world cup booty.

Since 2010, when the programme was introduced, FIFA and the European Club Association (ECA) have negotiated increments. And in 2018, the FIFA Professional Football Department; the body in-charge of the programme – will disburse a total sum of $209 million.

Calculation of payments and allocations:

– Total number of players at the World Cup: 736 (32 teams x 23 players on each team)

– Total approximate number of days cumulatively of participation: 24,500

– Distribution amount (USD 209 million gross) is divided by the total number of days (approximately 24,500), which results in an amount per player per day of around USD 8,530 (subject to any taxes and deductions)

– The amount of around USD 8,530 is multiplied by the number of days each player is at the World Cup, starting two weeks before the Opening Match until the day following the last match of his team (total per player). The total per player is then distributed to the club (s) with which the player was registered during the previous two years.

Based on the estimated amount, AS calculated by FIFA, the clubs will share a proceed of about $221,780.

A breakdown shows that FIFA starts counting from two weeks before the tournament until a day after the national team’s last game.

Also, the prerequisite for eligibility does not include whether the said player(s) played any game at the tournament.

Nigeria did not progress beyond the group stage, thus, it the days comes to a total of 26 days for Ezenwa at $8,530 per day.

The FIFA Club Benefits Programme proceeds will be distributed to Member Associations after the tournament – The Nigeria Football Federation – on the behest of clubs – if they apply for it.
