Family raises the alarm over missing son, wants him back dead or alive

The family of Julius Eboye of Ekperi, Edo State, has raised the alarm over the disappearance of their son, who has not been seen since 2014. The family said they were dying slowly in silence, hoping that one day Julius would return home or make a phone call to make known his whereabouts or, at least, tell his family he is alive.

A spokesman for the family, John Eboye, said:

“Why we kept quite was that a friend of Julius told us that he saw him off to a point where he perfected plans to travel to Libya, from where he claimed he would transit to Italy. We were hoping to hear from him but, until today, Julius has not returned home or communicated with us.“We have heard so many gory stories of how people die in the Mediterranean Sea or the desert in transit from Libya to European countries; that is why we are crying for help. Anyone with useful information about him should let us or the police know. We want to know if he is still living or if he is dead so that our mind will be at rest.

“His travails started on April 10, 2013, after a political party fight between the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Julius and a family friend were in a van when a fight ensued between the two parties at a rally in Ekperi town, during an election for the post of a mayor. So, his brother’s friend who was driving them in his van mistakingly ran into some of the party members.

The angry party men attempted to lynch them, but they managed to escape to Ekperi, which is the same municipal as the village of the scene. It was from there that we were called that family members of those who were knocked down by our son’s friend had gone to destroy houses of the occupants of the vehicle. Our brother and their party loyalists engaged the rampaging ACN youths at Fuga. In the process, an ACN youth shot dead the father of a PDP member and the police was invited. So, Julius and others went into hiding. That notwithstanding, the angry youths started burning houses.

“Our family was not spared, as they burnt down our house. Out of anger, my brother and his friends, who were PDP members, went on reprisal and burnt down the house of the vice mayor of Ekperi town. Since then, the king has set the Neighborhood Watch to hunt for my brother and his fellow party members who burnt down the top politician’s house. When Julius and his friends ran back to Fuga and discovered that the driver’s father was killed in the conflict, they knew that danger was lurking around, so they ran away. Julius’ father took him to Abuja, from where Julius claimed he was going to Libya. Our father has died an unhappy man. He died of grief and lack of proper care and medication.

“We have been searching for Julius since 2014. The people who declared him wanted have not allowed us to rest as they have continued to make inquiries about him. We know that he won’t come back home, but let him call us wherever he is so that we know whether he is still alive or not.”
