FIBA WWC: D’Tigress lose 5th Place Classification against France

A D’Tigress melt down in the second and third quarters saw France build a 45-25 lead that proved unassailable to see the Nigerian Ladies lose 84-62 points in the 5th classification game on Saturday.

France’s Hélèna Ciak scored a game high 16 points and helped Les Braqueuses restore face after a shock 86-65 loss to Belgium in the quarter-final.

The Nigerians raced to a 20-18 first quarter win, but went on to lose successive quarters 22-14, 23-10 and 21-18.

Meanwhile, Adaora Elonu led a quartet of D’Tigress; including Sarah Ogoke, Promise Amukamara and Atonye Nyingifa, in scoring double points on the day.

Head Coach Hughley Otis had to endure a difficult 40 minutes without being able to call on Aisha Mohammed, who played injured against the USA, as his team were battered inside the paint by the towering French players.

Next up for Nigeria is either of China or Canada in the 7th place classification game.
