FIFA U20 WWC: How Falconets Bid Good Bye to France

Nigeria made a seventh quarter-final appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday, but it ended on a sad note as Christopher Danjuma’s girls were knocked-out buy Spain in a keenly contested game.

The 2-1 defeat was Nigeria’s fourth elimination in the quarter-finals; the second time the team had lost by the same margin at this stage – 2006 Brazil 2-1.

 

 

This year’s tournament was a shade of all sorts for the Nigerian team and as captured by 18-year-old forward, Rasheedat Ajibade in her tweet after the loss, the girls must hold their chin up.

In the tournament, several Countries were the fans delight and would attract the biggest numbers on game day.

 

 

The Likes of France, Haiti, USA, Japan commanded the biggest numbers. Nigeria also drew very decent numbers to the stands; the largest being Thursday’s game against Spain.

 

Previous games had seen 823 vs Germany, an increase 1801 vs Haiti and 1534 vs China.

 

The quarter-final clash against the European U-19 champions Spain, drew the largest crowd of 1,829 in attendance.
