Flying Eagles fail to fly past Senegal in WAFU U-20 final

Flying Eagles of Nigeria lost to Senegal in the final of the WAFU U-20 football championship in Lome, Togo On Sunday night.

Two second half goals Senegal‘s Amadou Sagna and Yousouf Badjihanded Paul Aigbogun‘s side their first defeat of the tournament.

After beating Mali 5-4 on penalties in the semi-final, the Flying Eagles failed to lift their game in the final as they struggled to create many scoring opportunities, especially in the second half.

However, It was a good learning curve for the team as they are playing their first competitive tournament since coming together as a team.

Next for team is 2019 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations where they have been grouped against hosts Niger, South Africa and Burundi in Group A.

The 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations kicks off from February 2 to 7 in Niger and would serve the as the continent‘s qualifier for the2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
