Francis Uzoho vows to prove doubters wrong

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, has vowed to shut his critics up with his performance as he joined his new club, Omonia Nicosia, in Poland ahead of the new season.

Uzoho has come under sticks from Nigeria fans who felt the former junior international is not good enough as the number one choice for the national team.

He was the first choice during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where the Eagles won a game against Iceland while losing to Croatia and Argentina as they bowed out of the championships in the group stage.

The 20-year-old, however, lost his shirt to Daniel Akpeyi at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, although he kept the goal in the third-place game against Tunisia where he kept a clean sheet as Nigeria won the bronze medal with a 1-0 defeat of Tunisia.

“I’m not going anywhere, but I will only get better. So you can slide into my DM and say whatever you like,” Uzoho posted minutes after training with his new team at the Hotel Mistra Sport in Bydoszcyz Poland.

“Just fasten your seatbelts and get ready because it’s going to be a long ride, but I can assure you that I’ll make you proud and won’t count all your hurtful words now. I am happy to join my new team for preseason.”

He recently sealed a season-long loan deal from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, and will hope to command a regular shirt for Omonia Nicosia with former first-choice goalkeeper Tomas Mejias returning to parent club Middlesbrough after the expiration of his loan deal.

The Nigerian will now fight it with the duo of Constantinos Panagi and Alexandros Antoniou for who mans the post for Omonia last season.
