The tragedy was averted Monday evening at the Oke- Afa area of Isolo, Lagos as a tanker loaded with petroleum product, fell, spilling its content.
The incident sent shivers down the spines of commuters, as they scampered for safety . some motorists hurriedly made a detour to avert being trapped in a fire.
The tanker fell around 5pm .
Eyewitnesses said that the incident was caused by bad road.
The tank was heading inward Isolo, after loading at the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation ( NNPC ) depot at Iyana-Ejigbo, when it’s falling at the bad spot while the driver was trying to maneuver the bad road.
The incident caused gridlock as motorists were compelled to use the narrow lane inward Oke-Afa.
Commuters were stranded at Ikotun, Ejigbo, Jakande gate. There were also many stranded passengers at Cele bus-stop, without any means of transportation to their respective homes.
Commercial motorcycles ( Okada) cashed in on the opportunity to hike transport fare.
As at time of filing this report, the content had spilled into gutters.
Residents were in serious fear of possible inferno if urgent steps were not taken by the Fire Service to avert it.
A spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, Bola Ajao, promised to contact fire stations close to the scene.
